Screening for cancer is vital.  The practice strongly advises all of our patients who receive a bowel screening kit in the post to complete and return this simple test.  Screening saves lives.  PLEASE SEE OUR SCREENING LINK FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON ALL THE AVAILABLE SCREENING SERVICES.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Early detection and treatment is vital and The Oaks Family Practice would encourage all of our patients to be breast aware.

Please see the link below for some easy to read information around breast cancer awareness, with signs and symptoms and what to know about risk and prevention. If you have any concerns, please contact the surgery.

If you have received an appointment for screening (mammogram), but have missed your appointment, please ring the surgery and we will be happy to contact the Breast Screening service for you to arrange another appointment.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ANDREW

Congratulations to our in house counsellor, Andrew Gill.  He has been awarded the Queens Award at Buckingham Palace, for volunteer counselling at the Beacon Bolton Counselling Service.

Well done Andrew, this is well deserved.

CURRENT NHS PRESSURES

The team at The Oaks Family Practice is currently experiencing a high volume of calls from people who need urgent help and advice.

For this reason, it is taking us longer than we would like to respond to calls and we are having to ask people who have less urgent health needs to wait a bit longer for an appointment.  We are continuing to prioritise urgent cases.

If your condition is not as urgent, we would ask that you look at the other options available for accessing NHS services e.g.

  •      Following self-care advice where you can from nhs.uk
  •      Using your local pharmacy for expert help and advice for every-day conditions
  •      Using online services where you can request repeat prescriptions via the NHS app or your practice patient online service
  •      Seeking support and advice from NHS 111 online to direct you to the best service for your needs if you’re not sure what to do.

THE DOCTORS AND STAFF THANK ALL OUR PATIENTS FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND PATIENCE.
